Hong Kong – Christie’s Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art Autumn Evening Sale took place on 25 November totalling HK$604,522,500/US$ 77,768,660 and was 82% sold by lot. The top lot of the sale was Zao Wou-Ki’s 29.01.64, which established a world auction record price for an oil painting by any Asian Artist, achieving HK$202,600,000/US$26,063,431. Eric Chang , Deputy Chairman, International Director of Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art, commented “We saw intense bidding from across the region, as collectors pursued masterpieces from modern and contemporary Asian artists. The world record price achieved for 29.01.64 by Zao Wou-Ki, catapulted the artist to a new height of international recognition and cemented his status as one of the most important artists of the 20th century”.
